From certain documents that belong to the thousand year old history of a territory

Irsina, in rightly, could be considered 'The Citadel of the Archives' as it holds documents of different types that in the past years have been brought to light, reorganized and put at the disposition of those who want to study them, make a research about them or those who are simply curious and enjoy the delight of discovering unpublished aspects of a thousand-year old history. The ancient bishop's administration keeps over 5000 paper documents and 73 parchments which contain a significant historical and cultural value; a series of deeds that document the civil and religious history from 1233 until today. The last feudal lords of Irsina, the Nugent earls, and other protagonists of local history at the end of the 18th century, have left a clear testimony of their aristocratic presence, beyond the ancient palace also a part of their very interesting documents. The private archive of Amato Cantorio, kept in the highest state of protection by its owners, contains documents from the 8th century that refer to the farming management of agricultural and zootechnical conditions that the family was devoted to since the end of '700. The private archive of the Janora family contains, among other things, documents that belonged to the famous author of the most important monographic history published about Irsina.
