The smaller churches inside and outside the town wall
The indelible mark of the Christian faith in Irsina

Walking through the atmospheric alleyways and pleasant small squares of the old town, suddenly, in between two houses the plain white facade of a small church will appear. Saint Andrew (Sant'Andrea), Saint Lucia, the Purgatory (il Purgatorio), Saint Nicholas de Morgitiis (San Nicola), Saint Nicholas of the poor, Saint Roch (San Rocco), the Annunciation (l'Annunziata) and Our lady of Sorrows (l'Addolorata) are all chapels that the devoted inhabitants of Irsina wanted in amongst their homes, to watch over their daily fatigue and act as custodians of their hopes and dreams.
Outside the old town, on the main road, there is the Renaissance style church of Saint Augustine (Sant'Agostino), with connected convent. From the 'belvedere', the panoramic viewpoint of the main square in the old town, the church of the Pietà and the church on Mount Irsi can be spotted.
All this, is an indelible sign of the role of the Church over the centuries, and also testimony to the faith of the locals that cared for the upkeep of these holy places.
