The influence of the painter Giotto can be clearly seen on the frescos found in the chapel of Saint Francis of Assisi (San Francesco), not just in the architecture, but also in the spirituality of the figures depicted. The subject matter requested by those who commissioned the work, the Del Balzo family, reflects the popular trends of 14th century painting with the portrayal of Christ on the cross, the Last Supper and the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple.
Painted between 1370 and 1373 by artists open to the styles coming from Umbria and the Marche, the frescos denote both national and international artistic influences coming from Naples in the 14th century.
